My credo
My mission is to bring awareness to the natural and inherent beauty in things that surround us everyday, things that we often forget to notice. Simple beauties that we take for granted, out of habit.
Some projects are meant to show samplings of the random beauty that happens through the course of time. I propose that as some objects age their appearance evolves into something more complex and texturally more interesting. Layers of paint, meant to rest independently, now commingle playfully. Rust creates a new canvas of colorful expression with renovated depths of surface. The forces of nature act as a talented designer, creating beauty through the wonder of chance and the passing of time.
Other projects are about capturing a moment. The way light dances across a rainy surface, the reflection seen in your morning coffee, and the silly face of a friend can all be beautiful experiences to be recognized and savored. That moment may never return in exactly the same way ever again, I urge you to enjoy it while you can.
Through these photo galleries I intend to show that a unique and enchanting experience of color, line, time, texture, and form can be found in the most unsuspecting of places, if only we remember to notice.
My credentials and history
Since the childhood days when I first borrowed my mom’s camera, I have always been a shutterbug (as my wall of photo albums can attest to). I began my formal art training as a teenager with photography and ceramics. Being attracted to the arts I investigated many art mediums, dozens of styles and centuries of art histories. After years of searching for something “practical” to settle into, I realized that I wouldn’t be happy if I wasn’t doing something that I love. So, I have recently returned to the world of photography and I am now venturing to share my shutterbuggery with others.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts with a minor in Art History from the University of Washington in 2004. I went back for a Certificate in Photography from the University of Washington’s Extension College in 2006. Since then I have been exhibiting photo shows around the city of Seattle, the contents of which are viewable from the Shows page.
